Otakon 2005 Announcements
Otakon has announced the date, location and changes for their 2005 venue. Otakon will take place in the Baltimore Convention Center, the same center as previous years. The date has been set for August 19 – 21, about two weeks later than normal.
Otakon will also have an attendance cap. Only 22,000 “memberships” will be allowed. This cap is necessary because Otakon was beginning to reach the physical limits of the Baltimore facility.
Another significant change is that memberships are no longer refundable. In the past membership fees had been refunded to those who did not attend. This change may be influenced by the new membership cap.
The last change is that 1-Day memberships will no longer be available.
Although a membership cap of 22,000 has been imposed, this number will still give Otakon room to grow. Last year’s attendance was 17, 338 [correction: 20,899].
